This year has been challenging and I will definitely be sharing my testimony next year!

Through these challenges God has been good and I just wanted to use this post to share some songs that have been on repeat and have really helped me see God and His joy in a new light. With many of these songs, I’d actually wake up with them on my heart and as I played them on my way to work I’d feel so much joy and peace. I have titled them ‘heart songs’ and I will also share what they mean to me. I hope you enjoy! (Links will open in a new window).

VaShawn Mitchell – turning around for me

This is one of those songs that I woke up with on my heart. The lyrics beautifully summarize what I believe God was trying to get across to me. ‘It won’t always be like this’ and ‘sooner or later, it will turn in my favour’  hit me so deeply as a reminder that ‘weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning’ – Psalm 30:5. The night may be long, it may be short but after it, the morning comes and is filled with joy.

William McDowell – The cry

Whew! This SONG! THIS SONG! I cannot even count the amount of times I have replayed this song even on one journey. It’s a war song, an encouragement that sometimes you just have to keep pressing and pressing till you get an answer. ‘We’ll cry, till we get your attention’ – this kept me praying, even when I was tired, when I thought ‘I’m fed up! Why aren’t you doing something God!’ I keep asking, I keep going.

William McDowell – even now

An anchor for anybody expecting a miraculous turn around or event. Faith means holding on even when you cannot see. It means being expectant even when it makes sense. This song reminds me that God is a God of slow and sudden. ‘Even now you are moving’ – even when it doesn’t feel like it, He’s up to something. Hold on to His promises and listen to the testimonies of others, see how He showed up for them. One thing I’ve realised with God is that when He starts manifesting what has already been agreed in the spirit, it’s like a domino effect, just one thing after another, after another and this song gets me excited for that!

Deitrick Haddon (ft Gerald and Tammi Haddon)

This is my ‘dance like a person who has what she has asked for’ song. It’s a song where even if you are not feeling that joyful, you will after the first 30 seconds. This song reminds me that God deserves all the glory no matter what and the victory is mine so I must dance and praise to confuse my enemy!

Israel Houghton – In Jesus name

Just listen to the song, it speaks for itself.

Travis Greene – while I’m waiting

An injection of faith and encouragement. A reminder that indeed, while I wait, I’m getting stronger and that God has got me. Even though yes I will walk and yes I will run, I will not grow weary and I will not faint so long as I trust in the Lord. This song also reminds me that I am indeed a champion, fighting from victory and not for it because God will do that on my behalf.

Elevation worship – do it again

This song is a reminder that God doesn’t fail. Although the circumstances may look one way, if God has spoken, it will surely come to pass. ‘Jesus you’re still enough’ sometimes when life gets us down, we tell Jesus He isn’t enough by choosing other quick fixes over Him. Tell Jesus He’s enough through your words and actions in the wilderness of life. ‘I’ve seen you move mountains’ what has God done for you or others before? What mountains has He moved in scripture? Hold on to that, He doesn’t become powerless because of our situations, His power remains the same. ‘Your promise still stands, great is your faithfulness. I’m still in your hand, this is my confidence’ and ‘you’ve never failed me yet’ – what more can I say? Put your confidence in the one who never fails.

So these are some of my heart songs for this season. What are yours? Please share x
