The First born of first borns

Not too long ago, I felt overwhelmed by the weight of being the first born in my family. Carrying the responsibility of being a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear, an intercessor, and so much more became exhausting. I even joked to myself that if reincarnation were true, I’d like to come back as the last born.

But in true Holy Spirit fashion, He gently ministered to me, reminding me to cast my burdens onto the Firstborn of firstborns—the One who was made to carry our load, who is our safe refuge and comforter, and who lives to intercede for us (Hebrews 7:25). He knows the burden of being the first, the pain that comes with forging a path to deliverance and freedom for those coming. Whether they appreciate it or not…

When God speaks, He confirms

On Sunday morning, the Lord began to reveal patterns in my family, struggles I hadn’t even recognised as part of my journey and the journey of my siblings. These revelations came in the form of a conversation I knew I needed to have with my brother so it didn’t quite dawn on me that the Lord was in fact speaking directly to me. Little did I know, this was only a prelude to what the Lord would continue to say.

Later that day in church, I couldn’t believe that the sermon echoed exactly what God had been saying to me. Word for word, the message aligned with the very things He had been downloading into my spirit. Our Comforter was doing what He does best—comforting and confirming.

Are You Feeling the Weight of Being First?

Whether you’re the eldest child in your family, the first to carry the light of Christ, or the first to break free from destructive cycles, the struggle is real. The resistance is real. But the Firstborn among many brothers and sisters (Romans 8:29) has got you.

🔹 Feeling overwhelmed by responsibility? → “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” (John 14:1)

🔹 Feeling overused and overlooked? → Jesus understands. “A prophet is not without honour except in his own town, among his relatives, and in his own home.” (Mark 6:4)

🔹 Feeling burdened and ready to give up? → He promises, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

🔹 Wishing you had a different life? → “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

He understands.

So take heart firstborn. Take heart, trailblazer. Be strong and courageous—the Lord is with you wherever you go. The resistance may be great, but God is greater. Disrupting destructive cycles is never easy, but we fight from victory and it will never be in vain.

Do not grow weary in doing good. You are not alone. You are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, and the body of Christ is filled with spiritual family members to stand with you.

Keep going, He’s got you.

Rooting for you,

A fellow firstborn x
