Helper: a person who helps someone else
Help: making it easier or possible for someone to do something by offering them ones services or resources
What resources do you as a woman have to offer? (It is not a trick question, you have so much to offer and do not believe any less)
The word “helper” can be taken asĀ an insult by some, the title of someone not in first place.
It may be seen as a title of weakness to others. However, whether we like it or not that is who and what God created us as women to be (Genesis 2 vs 18). This shows that from the start we were purposed for a great partnership.
So delving in deeper, why on earth is a helper a good thing? No man (literally and figuratively) is an island. Everybody needs somebody. God saw that it was NOT GOOD for man (could also be interpreted as mankind as a whole) to be alone, so he made him a helper suitable (right or appropriate for a purpose, person or situation) for him. Right, let us break that down. God looked at Adam and all males and thought, the person that is going to make this journey of life easier for you with the resources I will endow them with, is a woman. I don’t know about you but this has surely made me smile.
Being a helper requires great strength, sacrifice, caring, leadership, teaching and so much more. The role of a helper as it pertains to womanhood is not restricted to us alongside a man. It is us as Christian women in our workplaces, our daily interactions, the Church and so on. The world needs more people who know what they have to offer and bring it to the glory of God at every opportunity. Remember I said that a helper needs to be strong, imagine trying your best and having it thrown in your face, having your name slandered, being discouraged or feeling undervalued and so on. The eyes and heart of the helper see this an opportunity to show love and to keep helping in any way even if this is down on their knees in prayer (pray for those who hurt you – Luke 6:28). This is definitely no easy feat but with God and with the actual willingness to be conformed to the likeness of Christ in this way, we can do it!
What can we do to make life easier and things possible for people today and everyday?
If you are still not convinced and think that our purpose as helpers is second-rate, well the Holy Spirit which is God, whom we rely on is called a helper many times in the bible…
