A prostitute? Im sure people think I’ve finally lost the plot. Let me explain. We all used to be somebody, an angry person, a sad person etc but when we knew God things changed, right? God counted us worthy to be a part of something great, well thats the same with Rahab. She was a prostitute but she grew to fear God and even though she had only heard of Him she was convinced of His power. This knowledge of a great God dictated her actions and caused her to be mentioned in the book of hebrews alongside people like Abraham. Her faith led her to be part of the lineage of Christ Himself. Yes, a prostitute! People may know who you used to be but they have no idea who God created you to be. Christs accepts everyone, you may think you are unworthy of His love and grace but trust me, you’re not. Don’t count yourself out, God has a plan for you!
Where you’ll find her
Joshua 2 & 3, Hebrews 11:31, James 2:25
Who she was
The bible does not give us much insight into the life of Rahab. All we are told is that she was a harlot and after her encounter with the God of Israel, her life changed and she became a wife and the mother of Boaz.
What she did
Rahab heard and believed. She also protected two spies that were sent by Joshua into the land of Jericho, from beling killed by the people of that land. After those that wanted to kill the spies had gone, Rahab took the chance to have herself and her family saved from destruction when the israelites would come and take over the city.
Why she’s amazing
Rahab took steps in faith. Although she may not have had a personal experience yet with this God, she knew that He was mighty from what she had seen and heard. Rahab was certain that the God which had caused fear to strike in so many hearts was capable of giving Jericho into the hand of the israelites. When you can’t feel God do you still trust that He can do the amazing things that He’s done before, again? She could have handed the spies over to be killed but she protected them from harm because she knew the greatness of the God they served. Rahab also took the opportunity to save her family from harms way, how do you protect those around you from harm? Rahab’s faith led her to be counted righteous, although the stigma of ‘harlot’ was still attached to her name, her life had changed all because she heard and believed. Let God transform you from who you were to who you were made to be. People may look at you the same but He has erased the negativity and made all things new, begin to walk in it. It doesn’t matter what the world calls you, what does God call you?
