There are many types and definitions of love for example Eros which is known as erotic love (lust) and the most famous which is Agape love the purest and most inspiring type of love. This is the love of Christ for mankind the love that made God look down upon us with compassion and send His only begotten son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Jesus Christ was blameless of any transgressions(John 4:19) His only fault in the eyes of the world was spreading the good news to those who were seen as unholy and unworthy of the love of God. There are many examples of love in the bible: 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 is one that we may all be familiar with. Which tells us what exactly love is for example love is patient kind, keeps no account of wrong doing and so on. It also tells us that if we don’t have love, anything we do is in vain. May our efforts not go in vain IJN.

We may think that we know what love is because the way we love can easily be compared to what is portrayed in the media. However, the love of God can not be explained using a script and can definitely not be compared to something which has an end such as the “romance films” and the “soap operas” that try to show us a superficial love that is contingent on whether we are being treated the way we want to be or the way others are being treated by the ones we want to love us.

Love isn’t ‘what can I get’ but ‘what can I give’. The media shows love to be a business a trade off of indulgence of self esteem, a business transaction based on selfish desires. If this were true love and the love that the Father through Christ taught we would still be offering burnt sacrifices.

Some people may find them self in a situation where they don’t know what love is or they’ve realised they don’t love the people they ought to love in a way that is taught in the bible, turn to God for guidance and learn to love him as well as your self and everything else will fall into place. The bible teaches us to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. If we don’t love ourselves how will such a task be possible.

So all in all love God digest His word and everything will follow.

He that loveth not, knoweth not God for God is love – John 4:8

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth – John 3:18
